Dear Bob,
How are you doing? I'm fine. Actually I'm better than fine. I've finally convinced my parents to let me take driving lessons. They were against me learning how to drive because they were afraid that I wouldn't drive (1) . They thought I might get in trouble. It's a bit unfair. My brother had no problem getting (2) permission to enroll in a driving school when he turned seventeen.
But you know my parents don't realize that sometimes my brother is totally on another planet. The other day he (3) riding his bike while listening to music on his smartphone! He couldn't really hear the traffic around him and (4) that a truck was trying to get past him. Can you believe it?
Anyway, although I'm not as good (5) my brother when it comes to math and physics, I'm absolutely responsible and I'm sure (6) fine on the road.
But you know, if my parents (7) me to learn to drive, it would have been (8) dissapointment. Next year I'll be (9) to a special sports school. So I really need a car because I can't get there without (10) . My parents want me to get the best education possible. (11) I continue to be successful at sports, it might enable me to get a scholarship for college. That would be amazing!
Well, speaking of future prospects, I'd like to become a sports physiotherapist. So I could enjoy my love for sports and help people at the same time. You know me, I'm a real people person. No sitting around at a desk for me.
(12) yet what you want to study? I remember you saying that you'd like to go into business. Do your parents agree with (13) choice?
Well, that's enough for now. There's so (14) homework to do and I have to help my mother and walk the dog. You know - the usual. Let me know how you're doing! I look forward to (15) news from you!
Take care!
Rachel

Mary Hardy talks about her life in Bristol. She sells 'The Big Issue' - a magazine about people living in the streets.

$\,$
I started selling the magazine in September last year and it has (1) really well. I grew up in the South West and had bad family problems before becoming (2) .
I came to Bath from Devon because I had (3) a few friends here. I've stayed with them, slept rough and stayed in the night shelter.
Sleeping rough is no fun - especially in the winter. Nothing really (4) has happened, thankfully, but I have been kicked and shouted at a bit.
At the moment I'm high up on the waiting list to get proper (5) - a nice place where I'll have my (6) room and kitchen. Until then I'm staying with a friend. It's good because there's a nice kitchen and I can cook. That's something I really like to do but I (7) it simple. I've got a few good recipes (8) like spaghetti Bolognese and cottage pie. And I love to bake when I can - carrot cake is always a good one to do. You (9) better the more you practise.
I've worked (10) an assistant in a restaurant kitchen in the past and it's something I'd like to do again. I'm hoping to get onto a college course in catering next year and see where that takes me. I've got A-levels, GCSEs and a BTEC in Business and Law, and I've found I like learning new things.
I was born without a full left arm - it stops below the elbow. It's something I've adapted to without much (11) - I don't actually think about it much. Some people ask about it, some don't. Some don't really notice and I certainly don't let it (12) me back.
Selling the magazine has got me more involved in other things, like possibly (13) an art club at the night shelter - I love drawing and painting when I can. I've got some regulars to speak to - the supermarkt staff and (14) are great. And there are also a few tourists coming through on the way to Bath Abbey needing (15) .
Bath is really a lovely place - there are worse places to be in the world, and hopefully I can make a real go of things here.
