Residential schools
Residential schools refers to schools for Native Americans in Canada. Between 1876 and 1996 children of Native Americans were taken forcibly from their families and educated in these residential schools in order to raise them to Christian and Canadian believes and prevent the influence of their culture.

150.000 children were placed in these resedential schools and at least 6.000 of these pupils died during the time at the schools due to bad conditions and abuse.
In 2008, a public apology was offered by the Canadian Prime Minister on behalf of the Government of Canada.
