Dear Workshop Moderator,
I hope this message finds you well. As requested in preparation for the upcoming workshop on “Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace” at the international youth conference, I would like to present an example from Germany that I believe is highly relevant: Bavaria’s first inclusive job fair.
This event was the first of its kind in the region and brought together a wide range of employers, including large international companies, smaller regional businesses, and public service providers. What made the fair unique was its inclusive setup: the layout was fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities — for example, by avoiding tall tables and offering sign language interpretation.
One of the highlights of the fair was the speed dating format used for job interviews. This gave potential employers the chance to learn not only about applicants' qualifications, motivations, and skills but also about their individual disabilities and how they manage them in the workplace.
The fair was seen as a success by all parties involved. It gave jobseekers the opportunity to connect with employers, present themselves, and build valuable networks. Employers, in turn, were offered a meaningful forum to demonstrate their commitment to inclusion and explore practical ways to diversify their workforce.
Bavaria’s advocate for people with disabilities emphasized the importance of such initiatives, describing the fair as a role model for other cities. Events like this help raise awareness and show how inclusion can be actively promoted and implemented in real-world settings.
Please let me know if you would like any additional information or materials for the workshop.
Best regards,
Owen Mitchell
