Parts 2 - 5: Text

Global Goals – a better future by 2030!?

1
In 2015, world leaders agreed on 17 goals to make
2
the world a better place for everyone. These goals are
3
called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
4
The SDGs aim to end poverty, protect the planet and
5
make sure that all people live in peace and safety.
6
Some goals include giving clean water to everyone,
7
making sure all children can go to school, and
8
stopping climate change. All 17 goals have to be achieved by the year 2030!

9
One big achievement is that fewer people live in extreme poverty. In many parts of the world,
10
more people have jobs and can take care of their basic needs, like food and housing.
11
Governments and organizations have helped by creating programmes to support the poor.
12
However, millions still live with very little money, especially in developing countries. More
13
action is necessary to help these people to lead better lives.

14
Education is another area where progress has been made. More children around the world,
15
especially girls, are going to school than ever before. Programmes like free school meals
16
and scholarships have helped families to send their children to school. Education is
17
important because it helps people build better futures. Unfortunately, in some places there
18
are not enough teachers or schools, especially in rural regions. The goal is to make sure
19
all children can get a good education by 2030.

20
A lot of countries are also working hard to fight climate change, which is a big threat to our
21
planet. More and more nations are using clean energy, like wind and solar power, to reduce
22
pollution. There are programmes to protect forests and oceans, which are very important
23
for the environment. Climate change is and will most likely be a serious problem. Far
24
more needs to be done to protect the Earth for future generations.

25
In summary, the Global Goals have already brought some positive changes worldwide, but
26
sadly progress is too slow to meet the 2030 deadline. It will need stronger action, better
27
policies and more international cooperation. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic as well
28
as the terrible wars worldwide make the achievement of the goals almost impossible.
29
Whether achieved by 2030 or not - to build a safer, healthier and fairer world for everyone
30
should always be something to stand up for.
