Pass on the information.
Read the text and answer the questions in German. You do not have to write complete sentences.
Stores put fruit and vegetables near the entrance to create a "healthy" atmosphere. Getting fruit and vegetables first should make you feel less guilty about the unhealthy food that end up in your trolley later. Supermarktes place essential items such as bread, butter and milk at the back so that you have to pass several things you do not need but take anyway. Shops place more expensive products at eye level. Like reading a book, shoppers scan shelves from the left to right and then look down. So supermarkets put their own brands, usually more profitable for them, below or to the right of more expensive labels.
Multi-buys are supposed to save you money but often cost the same as individual products. Look at the price of 100 g per item and avoid buying more than you actually need. There are brightly coloured signs for "top deals" or "lowest prices ever" which want to make you believe that you have done the deal of your life.
Packaging can also be influential. Sometimes there are pictures of films or music stars on boxes that encourage customers to spend more money and buy them.
Now that you know about some of the supermarkets' tricks remember to stick to your shopping list.

You and your parents are taking part in a guided tour of Cape Town, South Africa.
As your parents do not understand English well, you help. Guide: Hello and welcome to our famous garden and park tour here in Cape Town. I'm proud to be able to show you lots of endemic plants and flowers which only grow here in the Cape area and nowhere else in the world. Mom: Was hat er über die Tour gesagt? a You:
Guide: Fortunately everything is green again after suffering from the extreme water shortage in 2018. Nature has recovered quite well.
b You:
Mom: Oh je, davon habe ich gehört. Stimmt, die Leute mussten Wasser sparen. Das war bestimmt nicht ganz einfach.
c You:
Guide: Yes, you are right. People were not allowed to use more than 50 litres a day. Even hotels kept buckets in showers to catch grey water to flush the toilet afterwards. Although there is no acute water shortage at the moment, we still have to continue our water-saving behaviour.
d You:
Dad: Das ist auch vernünftig.
e You:
Guide: Exactly. Saving water is a number one priority. According to climatologists climate change has made the weather more difficult to predict, so we don't know when there will be the next water shortage.
f You:
Dad: Was war die Ursache des Problems?
g You:
Guide: Well, the number of inhabitants has more than doubled over the past 20 years. Decreased rainfall and high water consumption seem to be some of the reasons for Cape Town's water shortage.
h You:
Guide: But enough about that problem. Let's have a look over there.

Guide: Fortunately everything is green again after suffering from the extreme water shortage in 2018. Nature has recovered quite well.
b You:
c You:
Saving water must have been quite hard for the people, was it?
Guide: Yes, you are right. People were not allowed to use more than 50 litres a day. Even hotels kept buckets in showers to catch grey water to flush the toilet afterwards. Although there is no acute water shortage at the moment, we still have to continue our water-saving behaviour.
d You:
e You:
That is reasonable. / That's a good thing to do.
Guide: Exactly. Saving water is a number one priority. According to climatologists climate change has made the weather more difficult to predict, so we don't know when there will be the next water shortage.
f You:
g You:
What was the reason for that problem? What caused the problem?
Guide: Well, the number of inhabitants has more than doubled over the past 20 years. Decreased rainfall and high water consumption seem to be some of the reasons for Cape Town's water shortage.
h You:
Guide: But enough about that problem. Let's have a look over there.
