E-Mail: Application as a volunteer
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing because I saw your advertisement for volunteers for the next Commonwealth Games. I would like to join your planning team in London after finishing school.
I am 18 years old and live in Germany. I am very interested in sports and I like working with other people. I would also like to improve my English and meet young people from different countries. Taking part in the organisation of the Commonwealth Games would be a great experience for me.
I already have some practical experience. At my school, I helped to organise a sports day and a school festival. I helped to prepare activities, welcome visitors and clean up after the events. I am friendly, reliable and I enjoy teamwork.
Could you please tell me which jobs are available for volunteers? I would also like to know how many hours I would have to work each day and if volunteers get any money. Do you offer accommodation and meals? Finally, which documents do I have to send with my application?
Thank you for your help. I hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards,
Lisa
PICTURE-BASED WRITING
Commonwealth Youth Sports Day at Craighton Secondary School
Yesterday, we had a Commonwealth Youth Sports Day at our school. I was very excited because there were many different sports and activities and I wanted to try as many as possible.
In the morning, we met on the sports field. We could choose between different sports, for example running, archery and table tennis. First, I played table tennis with another student. It was not easy because my opponent was very good, but it was a lot of fun. After that, I tried archery. I had never done it before, so I was a little nervous at first. Luckily, some students helped me and showed me how to use the bow correctly. I even managed to hit the target.
Later, there were more competitions and everyone cheered for the participants. I really liked the friendly atmosphere because nobody laughed when someone made a mistake. Instead, we supported each other.
In the evening, there was a big party outside. There was music and many students danced together. We could also eat and drink at a buffet. The food was really good. Another funny activity was the “Champion Selfie”. We took lots of photos together and had a great time.
I really enjoyed the Commonwealth Youth Sports Day. I could try new sports, meet new people and spend time with my friends. It was an unforgettable day and I would definitely take part again.
